Quite often there is a disconnection between academia, the art world and the general public. I want to bridge those gaps, by creating images that are relevant to everyday issues and themes in society, while utilizing an aesthetic that speaks clearly to the general public, the academic, and artistic communities. I explore issues that relate to identity and beauty, as well as anthropological issues that focus on society as a whole and human interaction. Within these examinations, identity is a key element and means of reflection. I use a variety of mediums, to deconstruct the traditional gaze on commonly examined aspects of society, as well as the uncommon. My goal is to create an alternative to this gaze and bring awareness to subjectivity in popular visual representations of identity. My exploration extends to questioning who controls the imagery that is used to define people and cultures in the 21st century.
